The powerful religious place in Mexico Dec 05, 2010
The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, is a Roman Catholic churchin the north of Mexico City, Mexico. The shrine was built nearby the place where Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin.

The Basilica is surrounded by several churches, and the complex is called Villa. It includes the Capuchin nuns' Temple, the Indians' Chapel, the Pocito Chapel, the Saint Michael chapel, the baptistry.

The new Basilica houses the original tilma (or apron) of Juan Diego that shows the icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites of Catholicism and I was told around seven million people have visited this place on December 12, Our Lady of Guadalupe's Feast day.

This is of course the main religious pilgrimage site in Mexico and the second most visited catholic shrine after the Vatican. Very important for the faith of mexicans.

Most important religious building in Mexico Apr 22, 2008
The new Basilica is arguably the most important religious building in Mexico. It houses the original apron of Juan Diego that shows the icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Thus it is an important pilgrimage site and is visited by several million people every year, especially around December 12, Our Lady of Guadalupe's Feast day. Very interesting site to see, full of rich history and religious significance.
