Nice little visit! Apr 16, 2011
Although work on this cathedral started in the late fifteenth century, the work was not completed until a good 300 years later. Whatever the reason was, this minor basilica is a nice little visit when you are in Mantua. The façade is nice enough, but it is the dome that commands the most attention. The exterior catches your attention rather nicely while you are walking in the area, and the interior is decorated with some wonderfully detailed frescoes. Another feature of the cathedral includes the sacred vessels, which reportedly carried the blood of Christ at some point. This is not a bad visit in Mantua and I recommend popping in for a quick visit!

Preservation is good, just too bad you couldn't see the gems behind it.

it really was. not just the photos, i think the scaffolding was concealing some other great art which would have been equally as wonderful as the dome art. but at least it's being preserved for the future!

Looks like a beautiful Basilica. Just don´t understand why they always have to put up scaffolding when you want to take nice photos.
