Resting place for the Medicis, great art Oct 11, 2010
The Basilica of San Lorenzo is said to be one of the oldest churches and is definitely one of the largest churches in Florence. The church is renowned for being the final resting place for the main members of the Medici dynasty, the powerful banking family from medieval Florence and patrons of Florentine art.

The sacristy and the Medici chapel, where the Medicis are buried, are real highlights of the church. The work of very famous artists such as Michelangelo, Lippi and Donatello can be found here too.

This church is definitely worth the visit for the prestigious people that are buried there. The Medicis were instrumental to building up the reputation of Florence, one that continues to this day, and therefore, it’s nice to show them a little respect!
