Unexpected gem Apr 03, 2011
Constructed in the fourteenth century, this basilica is not hard to get to from Padua’s railway station and is quite an unexpected feature - I never thought that such a well-decorated basilica would be tucked away from the main road of Padua! The main altar is well done and the amount of expensive stone there would rival the stuff that is found in the grand churches of Rome. The roof interior has some fading, but still eye-catching artwork and the chapels and consistently decorated to a high standard. The basilica gets a steady stream of worshippers, including many that attend the confession service, which is good or bad thing depending on your viewpoint!
