Amazing Bascarsija Jul 08, 2008
One of my favourite places in sarajevo...
Located north of the Miljacka Riverside in the old town municipality Sarajevo Market place and historical cultural centre. Built sometime in the 16th century, the name Bascarsija is derived from Turkish meaning Market place/ bazzar.. Lovely little streets dedicated to various crafts, coppersmiths, silver smiths etc.. they even sell sarajevo roses, shells that were dropped during the war and turned into lovely little gifts!! quite quaint and unusual. You can see many things Gazi Husref Mosque, Clock tower, The Eternal flame, the National Library, which is now being restored, it was bombed during the Bosnian war and burnt for days,!! It is nice just to sit outside and drink traditional Turkish coffee and eat cevapcici, and people watch the day away.. Loved it.. |

Uno de los símbolos de Bascarsija… Sarajevo: Una postal de la guerra |

Tomorrow, as I said above, going to Tunnel museum (where they smuggled in supplies to break the siege) and Sniper Alley and the Holiday Inn Hotel, where it used to be very dangerous to go out.
Now time to see if there… Sarajevo baby! |

Bascarsija. The square had a Turkish fountain as its centrepiece, and around it, open-air cafes offered a seat from the shade. Sitting down, I remarked to Michael how we could be sitting in a Middle Eastern city, not in Europe . Michael agreed. There in front… Sarajevo, Bosnia - I Love This City! |
