Delicate temple-style vegetarian cuisine Oct 12, 2014
N37°34.438' E126°58.992' On the fifth floor in the Temple stay Centre overlooking Jogyesa temple, this is quite simply one of the best places to eat in Seoul, particularly for vegetarians. For less fancy buffet or noodle and rice dishes go the other kitchen on the second floor.

The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and oozes culinary tradition. From the start, we were asked to choose from three set meals of 12, 15 or 18 separate dishes, which are consummately prepared approximations of Buddhist temple food. We went for the 12 dishes Beopryun Principles course.

It is all beautifully presented and the balance of colour, texture, shape and taste is beyond reproach. Mung-bean pancakes, acorn jelly, sweet pumpkin tofu and sticky rice with ginkgo nuts are among the dozens of items appearing on out table. For Korean standards, it is rather expensive: nearly KRW 80.000 for two persons. Best to make a reservation, although the restaurant was not yet half-full during our visit in August 2014.
