Rosa's Hotel, San Ignacio Belize Jul 09, 2010
I enjoyed camping while I was in Belize but at some point when I'm on the road I need hot water, TV and AC. Rosa's Hotel in downtown San Ignacio was just what the doctor ordered! The owner, Tony, was very helpful, gave me a great room with AC for only $30US (the no AC rooms were only $25), the shower had HOT water and they had cable so I watched the World Cup! Tony also just opened an amazing gym with top notch equipment and he probably has the best location in San Ignacio. I paid $5US to go work out there, excellent deal.

Barton Creek Outpost Belize! Jul 09, 2010
The Lonely Planet named Barton Creek Outpost one of the "Highlights of Belize, Off the beaten track'. I had to go, I prefer "Off the beaten track"! Well, getting there was a bit off the beaten track but well worth it. The Outpost, as they call it, is situated on an amazing creek with maybe the prettiest swimming hole I have ever seen, complete with 2 rope swings. I travel with a new hammock so I just strung it up between the trees, right next to the creek and it was free, no charge. They rent tents if you need one for $10US. There were two couples there renting tents, they had both been there over a week. I ate lunch and dinner every day I was there and they totaled about $15US per day. They serve breakfast but coffee and a swim in the creek was enough for me. The owners are an American couple with three kids. They are both ex-military, very sharp and very easy to hang out with. The children are bright, polite and amazingly adept in their jungle environment. I went on a couple excursions while there and found them cheaper than the same things advertised in nearby San Ignacio. I planned on staying there a day or two and stayed for 6. The place is amazing, the owners are great, the food is unbelievable and I met a friend there who joined me for two weeks. What more can you ask for? If you like "off the beaten track". Check out Barton Creek Outpost, their website is easy to find.

Barton Creek Outpost Dec 06, 2009
Barton Creek Outpost will let you camp free have a campfire. Barton Creek Outpost rents camping gear; a tent with sleeping bag is $10.00 US per night, a thick foam pad is $5.00 US per night or you can rent a mattress with a sleeping bag in their loft at $5.00 US per night. The Barton Creek Outpost serves three home cooked meals per day at set prices. Breakfast is 6:00, Lunch is $7.50 and Supper is $10.00. All meals include a beverage of juices, water, coffee or tea. You can arrange to have a meal packed for day trips away from the Barton Creek Outpost. There are no curfews at the Barton Creek Outpost, parking is free, linens are included. There is a washing machine available for a fee and they will assist you in acquiring any type of guide or tour service. Nearby activities available include nature trails, waterfalls, swimming, canoeing, rafting, caving, horseback riding, birding, botanical observations and exploring numerous Maya Ruins. I have only day tripped to the Barton Creek Outpost to do hiking and explore for Maya Ruins in the area. The facilities have always been too rustic for all of my former travel partners. My ideal plan would be to stay at the Barton Creek Outpost for a couple of weeks to more fully explore the area. I will have to go solo or find a travel partner that is not DELICATE.
