Barri Gotic - in the heart of Barcelona Jul 20, 2008
The Barri Gotic (known as "Barri de la Seu" - Cathedral quarter) enclose most of what is left of medieval Barcelona. It's area between Cathedral and City Hall, and in the part surrounded by the bastions of the Roman walls. The Barri Gotic begin in the Placa Nova (the oldest square in Barcelona), it was entrance to the solitary Roman "Barcino" and in the 13th century was the main market in Barcelona where slaves were sold.
Carrer del Bisbe Irurita (street of the bishop) is the heart of the Barri Gotic and kept in original until today and is specific with the bridge which is sort of miniature summing up of Gothic art...the whole area has that beautiful "shadow" of old times and still stand proud keeping those times of oblivion. If you come to Barcelona don't miss to take a walk through, the Barri Gotic deserves your attention. Part of the ESPANA = ALEGRIA travel blog
