Beautiful beach - great surf - no crowds Sep 03, 2008
A little out of the way but worth a visit. Clean blue water. White sand beach. Great for surfing, body boarding, and windsurfing.
The whole area is clean and noticeably upper class. There is a giant shopping mall and, surprisingly, even a WalMart (which I found a bit disconcerting). I drove here from Rio and the ride is very beautiful. You also drive right next to Brazil's largest favela - Favela Rocinha. Amazing how large it is, quite a sight. Beware going through the looooong tunnel near the favela; every so often gangsters will shut down both sides and trap the cars in, then go car to car stealing money and valuables. There is also a road that goes around the tunnel. It takes longer, but whatever makes you feel more comfortable. Personally, I went around to get there and through to go back. One of my favorite beaches in Brazil. Be sure to check it out!!!! Oh - and there are lounge chairs on the beach where people will come and serve you drinks and food! Perfection. |

We all arrived separately, so it was a happy reunion with my friends on the 22nd floor of Building G, in the Morado do Sol condominium complex. I'm not sure what the big deal was, but no one could believe I had made it in high heels. I w…Barra da Tijuca, a precious beach just a little farther away. It was really beautiful and less touristy...and the other beachgoers seemed more relaxed; perhaps it was something they were smoking? We ate lunch at the Emporio di Camarao, where they… 6 days of fun and food in Rio |
