A traditional fishing boat! Jul 18, 2009
The Barque Catalane or Catalane, llagut in Catalan language is a traditional fishing boat used along the Mediterranean coast from Marseille to the Spanish border, mostly in Collioure,Barcarès,Sète,Banyuls sur mer...for fishing anchovies and sardines.Around ten meters long, this craft is equipped with Latin sails(one of 90 square meters in summer and a smaller one in winter)and 2 jibs(according the weather). The mast of the same length of the boat is in its middle and is dipping 20° forward.

A few shipyards built these boats in the past, mostly in Barcarès,Collioure and Banyuls(it is said that the Banyulenc boats were very fast in particular when they met the heavy crafts of the customs!).Thanks to fans, some of these boats requiring a lot of attention and work, are still sailing.

In Banyuls sur mer, members of the Association Vela i vent with the boats Llevantina unfortunately destroyed on the 28 December 2008 storm, then L'Abada bring back to life old crafts.
