Barong Dance Bali Reviews
Barong Dance at Batubulan Oct 10, 2012
Barong Dance the most popular performing arts sought by tourists in Bali, along with the Kecak Dance, Uluwatu.Barong is also a Theatre dance but accompanied by musicians, the nuances of the stage performancers and Balinese dancers were very proficient in Batu bulan. This Hindu cultural mythological story is a fight between Good and Evil.
BARONG the Good King Spirit in the form of a mythological Lion is a perform by two male dancers, one plays barong head and front legs, another playing the hind legs and tail. The Lions head is stuffed large and colourfully decorated. The story is a fight between Barong and RANGDA the old mythological Evil Widow Women, she is depicted with long and unkempt hair, claws and her face is traditionally a horrifying fanged,goggle-eyed mask with a long protruding tongue.(whilst Rangda is regarded as fearsome and the personification of evil by many, some parts of Bali considered her a protective force also), other characters that play parts are that of a Monkey, Tiger, Wild Boar male (Bangkal), Elephant, Ox or Keket. Keket by the Balinese considered the king of the jungle are also called by the name of Raja Banaspati.
This dance is a heritage that uses human puppets who have magical powers.Allegedly barong word derived from the word Bahrwang or interpreted bear, an animal mythology that has supernatural powers, regarded as a protector. But in reality Barong in Bali is not only embodied as four legged but some are two-legged. Barong mask made wood taken from of haunted places such as tombs, and therefore sacred Barong is a very sacred thing by the Hindu community in Bali.Tourists visiting Bali would complete your stay by watching these two compelling tributes to the Balinese cultural Dance Theatre.
