Fantastic Food! May 02, 2011
Newtown is chockfull of brunch locales, but this cafe takes the cake so far. The set up is fairly small and can be a bit noisy on the weekends but the food more than makes up for the tight quarters. The restaurant is also open for lunch serving up fresh salads, soups, sandwiches and hot plates.
We went for brunch and ordered the banana and cinnamon butter french toast, ricotta blueberry pancakes and gourmet-stylized staple bacon egg roll. The flavours of all dishes were incredibly matched and provided for well-satiated dining. Staff was friendly and helpful and the food came out timely. Overall, the prices were reasonable, especially for the quality of food.
If you venture out on a Saturday, the Newtown "hub" near the community centre comes alive each weekend with vintage stalls, food stalls and gifts, clothes, books and all sorts of items to peruse if you have to wait for a table or need a stroll after gorging.
If you leave somehow without feeling completely stuffed, the Black Star Pastry next door will certainly fill you up with delicious treats.
