Bariloche, or San Carlos de Bariloche to give its full name, and the surrounding areas are often referred to as Little Switzerland in guidebooks. In some cases it is easy to see why (architecture and building style, lakes, fondues). No matter what it is a spectacular place.

The must see & do activities in Bariloche are:
• 7 lakes tour
• Black glacier at Mt. Tronador
• Circuito Chico (65km round trip past a number of lakes and beautiful scenery)

Other good options include:
• Cerro Leone caves (only in Spanish)
• Cerro Campanario chairlift to panoramic viewpoint.

Bariloche is a vibrant place with lots to see and do. We were there in the off season and it was still a lot of fun. In summer, the water sports and hiking would make it great and in winter it is very close of some of the largest ski slopes in the southern hemisphere.

A car in Bariloche is well worthwhile and can be obtained from one of the local companies quite cheaply and easily.

Definitely a place I would recommend and a place I would like to go back to.
Lakes, lakes and more lakes

The off season is from May through to about August. From August there is Skiing, and up to the end of April the road through from El Calafate is open.
