Barefoot Hostel Ottawa Reviews
Good place to stay Jul 11, 2013
This is a small hostel in Downtown Ottawa. It's close to Byward Market but there are a couple of homeless and strange people hanging around close to the hostel. I don't know if there is a real danger walking around there at night but at least you should be careful.
For checking in you have to go to Swiss Hotel next to Barefoot Hostel because there is no reception in the hostel itself.
Once you're in the hostel you have to take off your shoes, you're not allowed to wear them in this house due to keep the house clean.
Because there is no elevator you have to carry your luggage up and down the narrow stairs. The rooms are quite small but the bathroom is huge. Everything is clean.
I haven't seen any offers for activities like in other hostels.
Breakfast is not included and you're not allowed to eat in Swiss Hotel. In consideration of the circumstances this hostel is good but a bit to expensive for what it offers.

Vacation away from home Dec 18, 2010
Just stayed here (during the low season) for three nights and had a room to myself for two of those nights. Even with 4 people the rooms would be spacious with each bed equipped with personal nightlights. Covers, blankets, pillows and a towel are provided.
The bathrooms (2) are excellent and the shower was better than some I've seen in 4-5 star hotels. Luxury
The property is adjoined to a more 'boutique' hotel and the manager is on-site in the hotel next door. She was very helpful on arrival and promptly suggested places to see and things of interest.
The kitchen has a microwave and ample fridge space although no stove is available. There are at least 20 fast food/convenience options within a 10 minute walk though as well as a 24 hour major grocer.
The lounge has ample seating/couches/futons surrounding a massive wall mounted TV with cable channels.
Wireless internet is available free of charge for those with laptops and there are two computer terminals inside the lounge room.
There are also two X-boxes (internet enabled) on their own LCD screens. Games and controllers could be purchased for 5 dollars per night.
Heating was good and rooms were cleaned at least twice (vacuum, mop, amenities)etc, that I saw in the three days I was there.
There is also a HUGE wall to write your own 'thank you or comment' as you enter the hallway and is something to see in itself.
I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. If your concerned about the price being slightly higher than most hostels I would encourage you to splurge a little! You will not be disappointed!
Just remember its the barefoot hostel...SO TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF! :)
