Affordable, Clean, Resort with Beautiful Beach Jul 29, 2012
We bought this trip through Trip Central, an online travel service who represented Sun Wing Vacations. The price was very affordable and included flight, accommodations, all meals and most drinks.

We traveled in November 2011 and was not disappointed. Aside from a small daily sprinkle, the weather was awesome. The ocean was warm and the beach beautiful.

The food was average/good but was not kept at the temperature that we are used to here in Canada. There was something to eat for everyone and the Resort had different theme nights to celebrate food from other countries. Our package included 3 al a cart dinners at 2 of their restaurants. The service at both restaurants and the main dining room was absolutely amazing. The servers worked very hard. Tips were supposed to be included with this package but being as it was so affordable I doubted that the workers received anything extra so we tipped them directly ourselves. Whether a guest tipped or not did not impact what level of service one received, they served everyone equally.

We bought wine for dinner instead of drinking the wine that was included in the package as we appreciate premium wine and one taste of the house's red was enough to encourage us to purchase a nicer wine.

Corona was served on tap and many premium liquors were included.

The rooms were clean and comfortable and being as the floors are ceramic, slippers were provided. The fridge was restocked daily with drinks and small snacks.

The pool was huge and free form but the spa coves were the temperature of the pool. There was a separate hot tub that was a bit too hot and was drained far too early in the day. They drained the tub anywhere between 5 and 7 pm which was disappointing as it got much cooler in the evening and that was a perfect time to benefit from the warm water bath.

Various entertainment was provided nightly, mainly singing and dancing (Mexican, Cuban etc.) in the Theatre. There was a disco at the neighboring Barcelo Resort which had a small cover charge for those who's package did not include free access.

A card was provided to present to a beach side towel hut. The concept was to give the card to the attendant and receive a clean towel. When you returned the towel your card or another clean towel was presented to you. I would recommend exchanging your towel at the end of the day for another instead of having the card returned as often the hut would run out of clean towels in the morning and we would have to wait. Upon check out one must return the card or pay a fee of $10.

Excursions offered on site are many. We opted to partake in Explor. This was about $100 per person and included transportation to and from the park and lunch. The park offered 2 circuits of zip-lines, a jeep ride through the jungle and caves, paddle boats, a swim through a course inside the underground caves. The zip lining was fun but I would recommend doing only one circuit so that you have time to complete the other activities in the park. It got to be repetitive after a while. You will be wet from the moment you partake in the activities. All zip lines have a least one water landing, the jeep goes through a waterfall and there is water in the seat of the paddle boats, (the paddles are about double the size of your palm and are strapped to your hands. The workers are very well trained and safety is not compromised.

We also chose the excursion to the Mayan Village with a trip to Coba to view the ruins and climb a temple. The trip included lunch and was $100 per person. I thought this trip was over priced. I would instead recommend renting a car to drive to Coba or Tulum to see the ruins yourself. The Mayan Village felt "staged" although the guide claimed otherwise. Still it was a nice experience to see how others lived.

We enjoyed this trip very much and would definitely return.
