A healthy way to experience the beauty of Cape Cod - Bike it! Apr 25, 2010
Barb's Bike Shop sells, rents and services bicycles. The best part is that you can rent a bike from Barb's and get going right away since the Cape Cod Rail Trail starts right at her place!

The rates are very reasonable, starting around $12.00 and going up about a dollar every half our or so. Check the website for $1 off coupon for each rental.

The bikes were great. Very new, clean and of great quality.

The Rail Trail begins in Dennis at the bike shop and ends in Wellfleet for a total distance of 25 miles from end to end. Barb's Bike Shop has one more location in Brewster which is maybe half way up the trail and you can return your bike there, but just be sure to set up your own transportation as they don't shuttle between shops.

The Rail Trail is a beautiful way to see Cape Cod. It is paved smooth and clearly marked. No cars are allowed on any part of it so it is very safe and easy to navigate. There are a few spots where you must cross regular roads with traffic, but there are clearly marked crosswalks and signs and all the cars are very good about stopping for the bikers.

As you travel the trail you will pass cranberry bogs, marshes, ponds and lakes. Some even have some beach area and picnic tables which would be great to bring a lunch and stop for a rest to eat and enjoy the view. There are also general stores, shops and cafes along the way.

This is such a great way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Cape and get a little exercise while you're at it. And anyone can do it regardless of your athleticism.

Yes, Bill, the Rail Trail is great for walking, running and even in-line skating...I meant to mention that! I think I might write up a detailed review specifically on the Rail Trail. Thanks for smiling!

I'm guessing the Rail Trail is also pedestrian friendly?

Good to know that you are familiar with this area of New England. We will be in that area around the end of May looking for historic family sites.
