Bar Seventeen Saloon Ho Chi Minh City Reviews
For a night to remember Nov 23, 2009
We had just had dinner and walked back to our hotel when we passed this Seventeen Saloon. On the outside it looks just like a saloon in a western movie, and the posters said there would be a band performing that night. We decided to go and have a look and ended up having a great time!
There is no cover charge, but drinks are quite expensive (at least the beers and Pina Coladas were…) and there are waitresses in Johnny Walker-dresses who, when you come in, try to persuade you to drink that particular whiskey, but they leave as soon as they have heard a no.
There are dozens of staff members walking around in tops that resemble the American flag (quite unusual, since it is Vietnam…) and whose main purpose seems to be to entertain the guests. Most guest are local youths, single local men who are a bit older and western men with Vietnamese girls. We were the only western couple there and we truly enjoyed watching the locals have a party once the band started to play. The band wasn’t bad at all, although they stick to the safe American evergreens, and they had a typical Vietnamese set-up (one guy and three girls who alternate in singing, the girl who wears more clothing has the best voice).
The atmosphere was fabulous and the band has a lot of interaction with the public. I highly recommend this place if you would like to go out in Ho Chi Minh City!
