Beach Mat Lounge with great drinks and reggae music Jul 22, 2011
Stumbled upon this place by accident as we were heading down the street to get to our cars to head to Sunba (a bar in Pantai Tengah). We were walking and we heard reggae music coming from the beach and we decided to walk in this dark path. There weren't any lighting at the footpath but if you follow the music.. you'll be safe. Passing what looked a little bit like a junk yard we were amazed to see a rustic looking lounge with mats on the sand, lighted oil lamps on wood bark low tables and people on the mats enjoying their drinks. Walking further in.. on the right, there was this stage and a 3 piece band with the lead looking the part of a rasta king. Aiman (the lead singer), who had an amazing voice, was singing popular Marley tunes.

Loved the relaxed ambiance, the casualness of the staff and the people around it.. Shissha's were available as well adding to the rustic feel of the place. There were a couple of people laying on the beach enjoying the best of the bar and the night on the sand.

I had a couple of beers there.... there was a separate bar that was serving up cocktails but I stuck to the bar serving beers. Price was, I guess it was a little bit on a high side (well, it was a bar and you can't find beers here cheaper than the ones you get at the store) but still cheaper than the city. RM5 for a can of Tiger Beer.

The places closes at 12:30 a.m and the music ends by midnight, due to regulations as there are chalets next door. If you're still in the mood to party, you could always head up to Pantai Tengah where Sunba opens till 2 a.m and well.. that's what most of them do anyways. Just follow the crowd :)
