Bar Astor Reviews
Astor - Classy boteco, Mar 08, 2009
Classy Vila Madalena "boteco", with décor inspired by the bohemian Brazil of the 50s and 60s. Wood-paneled walls and ceiling, white-tiles, gorgeous decorated cement floors, vintage prints, old mirrors and a centenary marble counter create a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. Brasserie-style menu featuring appetizers, fresh oysters, steaks, omelettes and delicious sandwiches. Must try: empadinha de camarão (shrimp oven-roasted cakes) and fresh oysters. If you're not a big fan of beer or tap, there are several varities of caipirinhas and classic drinks expertly mixed by the barman. Try Caju Amigo (vodka with an chunk of extra sweet cashew fruit preserve) or the caipirinha de frutas vermelhas (red berries). Very lively and often crowded, it's known as one of the best happy hours in the city. Tables fill before 9 PM, so it's better to get there early. Attracts a mix of hardcore Vila Madalena bohemians and yuppies with an age range of 30-50. One of my all-time favorite bars in the city.
