Bar Acuda Hanalei Reviews
Tasty Tapas, service good but trying too hard Aug 15, 2009
Bar Acuda is situated at the back row of Hanalei Center, a map shows the locations of al restaurants and shops (even though you don't neecd it, Hanalei Center is small).
Bar Acuda offers Tapas and they cost roughly between $5-13. They are very good but, as they are meant to be tapas, quite small. Between two of us we ordered three but could have done with one more. The quality is very good and I can only recommend the scallops.
The place comes across as a bit more upmarket, and that is reflectred not only in the slightly higher prices but also in the service and the way the staff behave when you first come in. If you don't have a reservation (and you don't need one, at least not in low season when we went) they go to fetch an importasnt-looking piece of paper, look at their watch, sigh, look at the piece of paper again and eventually say "I can put you on table number...". This happened when we arrived and the restaurant was nearly empty and then with every single other group that arrived after us.
If you don't mind that they pretend to be more busy and exclusive than they are then this is nonetheless a place that offers good food and otherwise very good service. You can keep the menu after ordering because it's quite possible that you will want to order some more. I can recommend this place on the whole, just don't take the pretentious attitude too seriously.
