Bar 22, The Eurotheum - Frankfurt - TravBuddy

This place is very aptly named. Firstly it's a bar so they got that one right. Secondly it's located on the twenty second floor of one of Frankfurt's many skyscrapers, the Eurotheum.

Despite only being a relatively small place the wall to ceiling windows offer a stunning panoramic view of Frankfurt sprawled below you as you sip your cocktails. A large well stocked bar is surrounded by a number of tables which are generally full of businessmen and the more wealthy elements of Frankfurt society. A pianist sits in the corner and croons wierd versions of various pop songs, just audible over the murmur of conversation.

The whole place does really scream 1980s from the décor to some of the staff and clientele and it really is like stepping out of some sort of timewarp once you've negotiated the lifts up here. It is so old fashioned as to be almost laughable.

Drinks are expensive (presumably to match their target clientele) so don't plan on making an evening of it unless you're feeling flush. That said the chance of spending a couple of hours drinking in the view make it worth making at least one visit here when you're in town. It's size seems to mean that it obviously can get very busy and if you really want to bag the best table (or even seat at the bar) then it's advisable to book.

Ironically the best view can actually be gained in the toilets as the wall to ceiling windows are continued into that area - although only by the washbasins, not within the toilet cubical themselves which could have been very disconcerting!!
