Cheap hostel in the centre of Fort William Jul 22, 2013
I chose this hostel in Fort William as a base for climbing up Ben Nevis.

The location is excellent - practically in the centre of the town, close to the train and bus stations in the vicinity of High Street. The town is about 2 miles away from the Visitor Centre in Glen Nevis, which is the start of the path up to Ben Nevis. If you don't mind (which I really didn't) to go to the start, so the place is exactly for you.

The facilities are usual as in hostels. The hostel offers 3, 4 bed and more numerous rooms with shared bathroom and toilet, as well as en suite rooms.

I got a room number 6 - 3 bedroom one. 2 beds were bunks and 1 classical. I was lucky, as could choose the classical one - a bit shorter, but quite all right. The room had basic furniture, but clean and in a good condition too.

The staff was welcoming and friendly and even the hostel had a kind of friendly atmosphere. The kitchen and TV room were clean, so it was possible to see, that these are cared of properly.

The bathroom was a bit old and in need of repairs. When I arrived, I could smell damps from the bathroom, so the door must have been kept open as the air condition couldn't improve heavy air after those having a shower. The showers were also a bit like that - loose screws and the plastic curtains separating 3 cubicles weren't the best either.

Another week point was the lack of storage and hooks - in the room and bathroom. Even extra shelves would improve this...

Generally, if you are looking for a place to overnight for 1 night or 2, this is your wanted one. If you don't have your own towel or soap, you can purchase these at the reception for moderate charges.

I would recommend the basic accommodation, if you are happy with this standard...

Basic, clean and close to everything Mar 29, 2012
Well positioned, from the hostel it merely a 2 minute walk to shops and foot outlets. Fort William is small, but scenic. There's one high street. The hostel is also positioned only 2 miles from the Ben Nevis Visitor's Centre. Staff were quite friendly. Rooms and bathroom were basic, but clean. Shared kitchen and chilling area. The kitchen seems to be only accessible between 7am and 10pm - apparently to reduce noise for visitors, therefore you need to prepare you're food early. I was going up Ben Nevis at 4am, so I had to ask for access to the kitchen to get some breakfast, fortunately enough the staff member was sympathetic enough, he just advised me to keep noise to minimum. There isn't a curfew, so you can walk in and out at whatever time you wish. WiFi's available, surprisingly good service for a remote area. All in all, I'd recommend, but don't expect any luxuries.
