15th June
Starting off at work is always the worst way to begin travelling. I'd rather get up in the middle of the night and do that half awake, last minute packing exercise where you check you've got your passport and flight tickets at least 10 times, stumble out of the house and realise that you forgot to get washed and dressed.
I was dropped me off in the morning so I could walk straight to the station afterwards. I looked really silly walking through the office...

LAst Day in Bangkok before Angkor WatToday was cultural day in Bangkok. Went with Ach to the presidential palace. Yea, apparently you need to wear long pants to see the emerald Buddha. So they basically lend you a pair of pants. That explains my pants if those pix make it up on the blog.Later that evening we all went out to dinner and had another exceptional meal.

So the title gave it away! I look at my ticket and it says 1:04a when I
think it says 10:04a. I go to the desk and I realized in a moment with
my 100 pounds of luggage that I missed my flight!
If
this was America, there would be a $150 charge to fix it all....but I'm
in Thailand and Thai Airlines is the single best thing going for
Thailand! They re booked me on the next flight leaving tonight at
1:04am, they even changed my American connection from New York to
Baltimore! I asked, "...

i am a peace corps volunteer. i became one for a multitude of reasons- some altruistic, some selfish, some i didn't even know until i got here- but i am a volunteer nonetheless. and i have now been in Thailand for a whole year. when i got here i was excited. then i was disappointed and disheartened. next came fear followed by anger... finished with a whallop of confusion (this is 11 months of emotional rollercoster we are...

Alexander Garland, The Beach:
"Khao San Road was backpacker land...The main function of the street was a decompression chamber for those about to leave or enter Thailand, a halfway house between East and West."
Eine super Zeit geht zu Ende....es bleibt eine Wahnsinnserfahrung...good bye Thailand and see you soon! ;-)

After the Min’s dropped us at the dingy old Yangon airport we sat around waiting for our flight. Cindy managed to lose her departure card which had as momentarily concerned (we didn’t have much cash left for a bribe!) and then when I went to pay the departure tax, somehow Bangkok Air had messed up the manifest and had Cindy's ticket listed as something like Mr. Cindy Fujimoto Recht which caused great consternation (and had me somewhat perplexed). They finally got tha...

This country is a must visit for any traveler. The locals are friendly and very helpful. And the Thai massage is the bomb! There are great bargains for shoppers in Bangkok. Just take in the various cultural shows and a James Bond river ride to the floating markets and shop til you drop! Dont be afraid to sample the local cuisines at various restaurants.
When visiting just have fun and take in the culture that Thailand has to offer.

We had just arrived back in Thailand from Laos. We decided on going to Chang Mai to do some white-water rafting and then heading down to the islands. We told the driver to take us to the middle of the city but, of course, they just brought us to their guest house. The manager was a young Thai man, around 25 years-old or so, named Tom. Tom showed us around and told us that he could set us up rafting and he knew a bunch of backpackers, could get us some pot, wanted to take us to a cool reggae b...

We took a 3 hour car ride and a 30 minute boat ride to Ko Samet Island yesterday. Its so beautiful here, the water is an aqua color, its tropical and really lush. We checked into this cool beach bungalow place with a beautiful view of the Gulf of Thailand waters. The side of the island that we are on is very calm and quiet and the other guests are mostly Bangkokians. For lunch we FINALLY ate thai food and its delicious! I did however bite into a nuclear hot thai chili pepper complete with cou...

Oh the city I love so much! The city that knows how to spoil you! where you can always find something to do and enjoy life!
Got here on the morning, met my friends, and we went directly for some clothes shopping (so i can throw my torn shirts from India) and then to Hard-Rock Cafe to eat real meat, after almost 1.5 months of no meat in India. The burger was amazing...
We arranged flight tickets to Burma, enjoyed some drinking, ice cream, massage and any other good life treats that you can g...

Before leaving Male I made a quick call to make hotel reservations in Bangkok - a phone number which I just took out of the blue from the internet. Voila! it was AMARI hotel, the guy I spoke to didnt even get my name and contact details and just told me to come coz they have available room for the night. Camilo and I planned to head of to either Cambodia or down south of Thailand the day next so we just need a roof to sleep on until daylight.
Arrived at BKK airport 2.45am,...

The plan: get to the fabled island playland Ko Phangan by new year's without the benefit of making any reservations beforehand. After waking up late in the hot Bangkok day, I went to the first travel agency I found- next door. Being so close to new year's already, all the trains were booked, all the local flights involving the route to Ko Phangan were full, and I wasn't about to ask about anything smaller than a jet. The only thing left was the 12 hour overnight bus ride from Bangkok t...

After a reasonable sleep on the flight from Melbourne I stumbled out somewhat bedraggled at Bangkok airport, made it through customs and out the other side into the big, noisy, steamy, smelly metropolis that is Bangkok. Don't ask me what I spent the day doing because I think the heat has erased the day's memories but I do remember something about crashing for a few hours in a guesthouse in Silom before catching the overnight train to Chiang Mai at 1800.
That'd have to be the greatest tr...
