I took these pictures on the day before my departure. Although Bengaluru is my home and I go often on holiday, this particular trip was a  business trip so I didn't get much time to look around. I only had weekends. So much has been written about Bengaluru the last few years, most of it seems to be related to software companies and 'backend' jobs offshoring to India's Silicon Valley that I thought being a Bangalorian, I'd share the less-techie side and show the more colourful ...

Well I was here for work and not on a sightseeing trip, although on my travels around bangalore I didn't spot much to see bar the usual run down palaces. Bangalore has seen huge growth recently and lots of western companies are setting up in india's silicon valley, this means that the whole sprawl of the city is one big building site, new motorways being constructed, every available space is a building site. Bangalore doesn't seem to end just spraws on and on, traffic is a nightmare eve...

History :The story how Bangalore came to be called by its present name has an interesting history. Once on a hunting expedition King Ballala of the Hoysala dynasty lost his way in the jungle. Deep inside the jungle, lived an old woman who took pity on the hungry and tired hunter. The old woman was poor and had nothing else to offer but boiled beans. But the king was so pleased with her hospitality that he named the entire city as bele-benda-kalu-ooru, which in the local language Kannada means...

MAY 2005--Big thanks to a three-week stint in Bangalore to liaise with my former Singaporean company's off-shore IT services provider, I set foot in India for the very first time (and the only time so far), in the country's cleanest and greenest city (I had to be told!) no less. Some snapshots...

I started working at an animal rescue shelter for street animals (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action, CUPA) and mainly spend my days walking and petting the gazillion dogs they have there. Now, I like dogs and don't mind doing that all day but I came here to learn something too. But at CUPA  I'm not really allowed to participate very much in the veterinary things and stuff and most of the workers don't speak any English so asking them about this and that is difficult. It's also not a very ...

In a idea more ridiculous than a one legged man entering an ass kicking contest, 8 of your friends are attempting a 2,000km crossing of India in autorickshaws. Cross country. In monsoon season. Setting off from Chennai, wrestling with the brutal power of 150cc's of quality Indian engineering and heading west. 2 weeks away is Mumbai. The only thing between us and the finish is a shortage of roads, mechanical failure, malaria, cholera, monsoon rain and the lack of a decent steak.
