Budget Accimmodationin Banff Sep 11, 2014
The YMCA is located on the edge of the Bow River close to the heart of the village and a nice walk to the Banff Falls along the edge of the Bow River.
It used to be a hospital but has now been converted into a YMCA facility.
They offer private rooms with and without a bathroom as well as hostel accommodation.
There is a small kitchen which can get very busy and a meals area which serves good value food if you don't want to use the kitchen.
Staff are very helpful and friendly and wifi is available.
Like most of the other hotels in Banff they can become full in the weekend so if you can it is best to book ahead.
The YMCA is clean and tidy and recommended as budget accommodation for Banff.

Relaxed, good location, clean and friendly. Feb 16, 2012
I have stayed for a month in the Banff Y Mountain lodge and I had a really good time. The staff is really friendly and helpful. There is a good mix of long and short term guests. There are two lounge areas and a big kitchen where everybody socializes in the afternoon/evening during cooking and dinner. I had a private room during my stay and it got cleaned every day, like I was in a hotel. However still backpackers prices. I must admit that in the dorm rooms on the lower level some rooms had problems with the windows and with -30 in the winter is got a bit cold inside. However this was taken care off by staff. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the town and night life.
I would definitely go back and recommend this to everyone. The alternative you have for the Y is the Hi-Banff hostel. This is up Tunnel mountain a good 20/30 min walk from town. So location wise Y is perfect.
The Y has a cafe on the ground floor where you can have a descent dinner for under $10 bugs. There is no bar and it is a bit quite in the evenings. So if you looking for loud entertainment in the hostel this might not be your place. But then again you can party in your own room with your friends as long as you want after the pubs and bars closed.
