Banana Islands Overview

The Banana Islands are a group of islands that lie off the coast south west of the Freetown Peninsula in the Western Area Sierra Leone. Three islands make up the Banana Islands two of which are linked and usually referred to just as Banana Island because the shape resembles a banana .

They can be reached by boats from the mainland village of Kent. It is best to contact a guest house on the island to arrange a boat there as the price is lower than you can negotiate from the mainland or included in the price of your stay.

The main island has many beaches, an old Portuguese slave fort and you can dive, swim and fish here.

It is a popular weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of Freetown.
