Banana Boutique Hotel Kigali Reviews
Great staff, average guesthouse Jun 17, 2013
This is more a guesthouse than a hotel, with the corresponding homely feel to it and adorable staff. They indeed went out of their way to help and I had long conversations with a couple of them. One of them, called Innocent, even took me out to sightsee around Kigali, book onward tickets and eat out.
That apart, the hotel itself is way overpriced for what it is actually - around $100 a night - possibly because it is located in the posh Kyovu neighbourhood of Kigali. The location is certainly a plus, quiet, leafy and close to the centre. But the rooms are very tiny, the facilities mediocre and, except for breakfast, meals have to be ordered in advance - the cook is then summoned and he cooks. There are several restaurants close by, so eating is not a problem, but don't expect much at the hotel. The hotel just opposite the Banana - Urban Hotel - is a newly opened hotel that is way superior and charges just marginally more. The Urban is a proper hotel with plush rooms, a great rooftop restaurant and the same location.
