Fortune favours the bold! Apr 05, 2010
The bamboo bridge is situated towards the edge of Luang Prabang and crosses over the Mekhong River. I’m not sure when it was constructed, but it really was such a strange construction. Although bamboo can obviously be very tough and sturdy, I was a little concerned to cross this bridge. It was funny to see a bridge keeper at the start as well, who requests a small donation which goes towards the upkeep of the bridge. That didn’t reassure me too much!

Despite my reservations, the bridge was absolutely safe to cross over. There is a café/bar just over to the other side which makes for a great relaxation spot. Or you can enjoy the sunset views from here, and see glimpses into local life. It was great to see so many people tending to their small but highly productive plots of land near the river bank.

I think this is a great sight and you must cross the bridge if you’re in Luang Prabang!
