Basic hotel room in temple guesthouse Sep 10, 2011
N22°45'0.83" E120°26'45.26" When we arrived for one night in August 2011, Bamboo Garden Lodge was near the completion of a refurbishment. No other guests were staying at Bamboo Garden Lodge. Our room (no. 518) had two small queen-size beds, for us to small to sleep together. Separate shower and toilet. Mediocre airco. Including in the prize is breakfast, lunch and diner in a restaurant near the Bamboo Garden Lodge. They serve for guests continental but strictly vegetarian food, but they didn’t tell us to sit at that specific table.

During our stay we visited the buildings in this Buddhist temple complex, described in the Lonely Planet and Rough Guide. The main temple was impressive, the museum celebrated the life of the head priest and Budha land was for kids. Although we went everywhere, we didn’t see much of daily monastery life and were not invited to spend time with the monks. We experienced Foguangshan more as a temple complex geared to visitors than as a monastery.
