Every Febuary or March, my husband and I to go Austria for a week of skiing with friends. And every year we travel the same route through west Germany. This time we decided to leave a few days early and take a more eastern route. So out came the '1,000 Places To See Before You Die…

My little hometown in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. This is my second most favorite place on earth after San Antonio, TX. Bamberg is really the beer capital of the world. There are ten breweries in the city limits, and another 250 in a 60K area around us. The town only has about 50,000 people and drink more beer per capita than Munich.
It boasts being the hometown of King Ludwig (honorary), Willie Messerschmitt, Georg Hegel and Pope Clement II.

I still don’t know what made me go for Bamberg. I am sorry to say I had never heard about it before and for that I feel a bit ashamed for today. The city is know for a lot more than its beauty, it was actually the centre of German knowledge and wisdom for a long time, besides that the city is cla…

I had been driving all day since the morning in Germany; I had visited great places like Dresden and Pirna and it had been time to find a good place to have a nights rest. My first target had been to find something in Bayreuth but I had been quite disappointed by my first impression. I checked my G…

So - time to explore Bamberg then...
We three thousand kings of Bamberg are!
When we set off in the morning we were met with the sight of some oddly dressed children scurrying ahead of us. Further investigation led us to the town square in front of the Rathaus where they were g…

It was very interesting. The people dressed up as they did in Medieval time. Food is great. The Castels are amazing and they have turned one into a museum. In side they have all the tools they used in those days to torture Witches.Steeling was very bad and resulted in shackels in the town square for days. The grounds are wonderful and have a great ray of flowers.

Bamberg is a really neat little town in the Franconian/Bavarian portion of Germany. They even have their own specialty beer which is a rauch (smoked) beer. This a great place to adventure through and then settle down for a portion of Schweineshaxen (pig knucke) and a Rauch Bier (s…

On our way home from the opening of an exhibition in Viechtach, we made a quick stop in Bamberg. It was only a little detour from our original route and I had heard so much of this city that we just had to visit now that we were in the neighbourhood.
Driving into town through some kind of residen…

Bamberg was a really charming town to visit. A friend who suggested visiting the city described the buildings as having been built with Lego bricks. We walked all around and were fascinated with the buildings which are all authentic. We found out that this town was not …
