Balmorhea Vacation Guide

Balmorhea is a nice small State Park in the foothills of the Davis Mountains in West Texas. To get there just take exit 206 off of I-10 West shortly after Fort Stockton. The place is clean and well kept up. There are tent and RV campsites, as well as a nice little hotel within the park. There are many endangered species of fish that live in the creeks that run alongside the hotel, at the park. As well, it's a good little bird watcher's area. At night you can appreciate the vast number of stars in the sky in the coolness of the dessert. If you're really into star gazing the McDonald Observatory is just a short distance away. The main attraction however is the spring fed pool filled with many species of fish and my favorite, the spiny softshell turtle. During the day they have park workers riding around in golf carts that are happy to assist you and answer any questions for you. As far as State Parks go, I would say Balmorhea is one of the nicest but least known. Definatly worth looking into
