Balmers Herberge Interlaken

Balmers Herberge is a good place to stay if you're looking to meet people and have some fun. I personally stayed in a single room which was very reasonably priced for Europe/Switzerland. Only negative is the shared bathrooms. Of course I'd prefer en suite, but if your a true backpacker then you've learned to accept sharing and overlook this.

This place has good happy hour specials every day and a night club built in the basement of the hostel. I use the term night club very loosely but I lack a better term. Lets just say you can wear shorts, flip flops, whatever you please and it is fine. So by normal standards it would not be considered a night club.

Location is good. Right next door in both directions are restaurants. The one to the left is very reasonable. There's an ATM within a stones throw. Two doors down is an adventure tour company. The main town is a short walk, 5 minutes tops. Train station is about a 10 minute walk. And it's all flat ground so a very easy walk.

The staff were friendly and helpful. They can book tours, give advice, and occasionally may even have a drink with you when off shift.

This is truly a backpackers hostel in my opinion. It is not really a family place. Not to say one couldn't stay there. It has laundry and kitchen facilities. Internet and free wifi. A small general store and gift shop. Good location and generally a fun and friendly place to stay.

Balmer's is the place to be if you are looking to have a good time. They have, what seemed to be, the only bar open until a decent time. Also they are next door to equipment rentals for snowboarding/skiing and right near a bus stop as well.

There is a cool little bar/lounge area across the street where we got to watch some NBA basketball game and just hang out on the couches.

We also wandered around the town and found a supermarket so it made the stay a lot cheaper as we drank and ate from there instead of in restaurants.
