Great Local Hot Air Balloon Festival Sep 10, 2010
Balloon Fest is an annual event held in Centralia, Illinois, the third weekend of August at Foundation Park. There are daily balloon races and evening balloon glows. Usually 30-40 balloons are in attendance, with the special ones of Humpty Dumpty and Finding Nemo. The balloon glows are especially pretty with the balloons reflecting off the pond.

There is entertainment on the stage; local country bands, rock groups and gospel choirs perform. There is a really nice craft fair, as well. This year, I found some unique jewelry. There is all sorts of food concessions, carnie standards of funnel cakes, corn dogs, and lemon shake-ups, plus gyros, tacos in a bag and blackberry shake-ups.

There is a nominal $2 a person daily entrance fee. It is well worth it! Watching the balloon crews and the balloons is mesmerizing. It’s a good family activity and a nice local festival to support.
