Ballet "Swan Lake" performed at Water Cube Reviews
A Review: Ballet "Swan Lake" performed at Water Cube Aug 15, 2009
I feel like I need to do two different reviews for the performance.
Review 1: If you are going to this performance seeking to be pleased musically. Don't go. Tchaikovsky is barfing in his grave. The music was pre-recorded. The quality dancing was...minimal. There was a cheesy powerpoint/video thing going on throughout the performance. Every time the devil character came out, an image that was shockingly similar to the "eye of mordor" would appear on the screen. Other times it showed "dancing trees" or just random pictures (like a hawk carrying a rodent). Now, I understand that the city is trying to make use of this impractical building, but I'm not sure that this is the way to do it. Review 2: If you are going to this performance purely for the the excitement of being entertained in the Water Cube. Go. The environment, for being staged with an Olympic pool, was quite beautiful. They fully used the space (from the random divers to the synchronized swimmers). There were a few "spices" added (such as the kung fu fighting dancers). Part of the China Adventures travel blog |
