Balinese Costumes Apr 14, 2010
Up to the time when Bali was colonized, the local people still wore very simple clothing. Woman wore their breast uncovered, or only covered by a piece of cloth, event for going to the temple for ritual. At that time only people of noble birth wore full clothing, including beast covers. How ever we are still able to see from the various kinds of clothing of the past that event then there were distinctive characteristics.

For balinese Hindus, costumes are not just something to be worn on the body they are also to be worn on constructions specially on sacred constructions on ritual occasions. When a ritual is to be carried out at temple, there is a process called the masang Busana or masang Penggangge carried out at the beginning of the ceremony, the process of putting on costumes ornaments and decorations on the constructions making up the temple.
