Bali Rani Hotel Reviews
Easy Access but a tad old Mar 27, 2011
I stayed in the Bali Rani hotel recently for 5 nights. What greeted me upon reaching the hotel from the airport is an open space reception. There was a old rustic mystical atmosphere when greets you at Bali Rani. There was a refreshing welcome drink and then I was brought over to my room.
I had a room on the ground floor, which is pretty convenient. However, I note also that the hotel is probably 3 floors, and I don't think I see any lifts around. So pity those with big luggages who had to climb the staircase to their rooms.
The room itself, is relatively small. to me, everything is very basic. There is an old TV and a small fridge. In terms of amenities, there was of course coffee making facilities available, in that there is a electrical jug kettle, cups and sachets of coffee, tea, with creamer and sugar. There was however, no bedroom slippers provided and the closet smelled mouldy. The hangers are those which are attached inside the closet, so you can't jolly welly remove it to hang out your clothes.
The bathroom, again, is pretty basic. You have a bathtub with a shower. The shower is non detachable though. so, I had to spend quite a bit of time trying to angle the shower head to get the `right' kind of shower, else it is just sprinkles. The current is not bad, just that the shower head needs to be changed.
The hotel do provide soap, towels, shower cap, shower gel and shampoo. When i first got to the room, there was no dustbin. This was only replaced on the 2nd day. Guess housekeeping removed it the last time they cleaned the room.
The aircon is strangely encased up however that doesnt affect its function. For my room, I do find it rather challenging with adjusting the room temperature. When I come back from the hot and humid weather outside, I find the room takes a long time to cool down. But I often wake up in the middle of the night shivering because the temperature had gone too low! so, its pretty ironic and not exactly comfortable.
Breakfast is the best part of staying in Bali Rani. Breakfast is served buffet style and while it doesnt have the widest of spread & variety, it is quite sufficient for me. There is an area for a few nice danish pastries, brown or white bread for toast, some cakes, fruits, yoghurt (in big tubs), and congee with the condiments for those keen for some chinese food. Another spread is on local fishes with soya sauce, some local fried rice/noodles and keropok (=crackers). There is of course the juice bar, and the egg station. And I must say the coffee served at breakfast is good, I almost always go for refills and the waiters are always on standby and will go around refilling every so often. :)
In terms of location, i would say this hotel is very strategically located. It is directly opposite the Discovery Plaza hotel, which is also often used as a conress venue. And next to it is the Discovery Mall. So, very easy access to shopping. If you walk down the road, there are also a lot of different eating outlets, including one fine italian restaurant (where i went 3 times in my 5 days there!). There are also some local spas around the area.
If you continue walking down the road, pass the mall, you will reach Waterbom. And a bit more further will bring you to the Kuta art market, where you do some shopping for some arts and crafts. However, these are not as fine as those found in Ubud.
there are 3 restaurants in the Bali Rani, however, I've not had a chance to eat in them, as they close by 9ish every night. There is a nice pool where you can laze around. there is also a little `floating platform' right after reception area, where you will find a mini library of books, and sofa sets to sit on to read. A nice breather and relaxing area.
There is also a spa within the hotel. I didnt have a chance to try it though but saw that the prices quoted on its menu looks reasonable.
Overall, in terms of convenience and location, this hotel tops. Its a comfortable mid range 4 star hotel in a strategic part of Kuta. While the hotel does look a tad old and could do with a facelifting refurbishment, service wise is good, its clean, and acceptable for a 4 star establishment.
