'KERATON (Kingdom) RESTAURANT' Jun 26, 2014
On my birthday, 2014, Ian took me for a nice dinner here at the Impressive 'Bale Raos Resto' it is of an old Imperial Classical Javanese style restaurant, The traditional low roofed buildings (Joglo's) are set in a walled gardened area, which from the outside impressions leaves you with no view of seeing the Resto buildings it is not until you walk through the big stone wall entrance that a vivacious setting enters one's eyes.

We are welcomed by the Reception Waitress wearing a form of Javanese Kebaya, who did graceful and say hello. We are taken to our table with the Classical Javanese entertainment of gamelan music playing quite serenely that gives you a warm calming feeling.

Bale Raos is located in Yogyakarta Keraton Palace complex and consists of 2 Joglo buildings, we can choose to sit in one of these or in a court yard area. We did choose the court yard area as the weather of the evening is very nice.

While we are making our Menu choices, we are served snacks like corn chips this is good because the Menu is a bit confusing.

The names of the dishes are not common but with the patient help of our waiter, these are made clear to us, also they do tell us why behind some cuisine dishes is a unique name, these are said to be the favorite dishes of the king. The likes of a Beer Java, semur piyik, tapak kucing, prawan kenes, semur ayam panji, and dendeng ragi , as well as others on the menu with even more unique names, such as bebek suwir, garang asem, perkedel, bistik lidah, kimlo, perkedel jagung, gecak genem, trancam and other Typical Java dishes. (Thank you to our patient waiter).

We ordered Lombok Kethok (Beef), Fried Duck, Red Rice, Beer Java and Pineapple Juice. meals are served with sliced red chili and green chili. Ian's meal appeared beautiful. With a taste that is unique, not like stews, also not like steak. The Beer Java, Ian ordered does not contain alcohol at all, just spices such as lemongrass, cinnamon, lemon, ginger, and other spices that I do not know the name.

To eat here is quite expensive, but you are eating at a location next to the Sultan's Palace with reference to his favorite meals and Drinks makes it tolerable for this privilege. So after a tour of the palace. Dinner here!

Royal Cuisine Restaurant Aug 02, 2011
The place is a must visit place because it is located at the Sultan Palace Yogyakarta. Very rich of its culture. They have a small shopping mall called Sarinah that sells vaeriety of traditional crafts, and they also have live cultural performance at the restaurant.

They serve various traditional food of Keraton (palace), they also put the Sultan and family's name as their favourite. They have from appetizer to dessert and each one of them really looks yummy. I love Indonesian food, hehe, so all of them look good to me :D

I ordered a traditional dessert that was grilled banana with sweet sauce, tasted so good, love it! The price is very reasonable. Well, the food in Yogyakarta is not very expensive compared to other cities in Indonesia.

The place is very cozy and comfortable, they have lots of seats and looks like they often have a private event held here. When I was there, there was a birthday party that was held by a group of people. They welcomed them with a traditional dance, and also some other entertainments.

It is very recommended to try when you are in Yogyakarta, local traditional food is a must try!
