Peaceful view at heaven's balcony - Balcon del Cielo Sep 08, 2009
The Balcon del Cielo (meaning heaven's balcony) is located in a small town at the countryside of Lima. Lima is a big city, so it's always nice to be able to run away for the busy traffic.
This place is located south of Lima in a valley famous for its grapes, apples and river shrimps! Although is close to Lima (not even 2hrs away) you can notice the difference. First of all silence and nice weather. Just what family and me were looking for.
This area is famous because of the river shrimps and this restaurant was one of the first and might be the most famous, not only for their food, but also because their balconies and amazing view of the valley and river. They have 3 levels with tables with really lovely views.
Their menu is mostly Peruvian traditional dishes. To drink we ordered Pisco Sour. This valley produces grapes which means pisco and wine.
For appetizer we got tequenos (wantan pastry)stuffed with shrimps. It was a good start.
As entree I ordered grilled trucha (a local fish = trout) covered with shrimp. As side there were steemed veggies and fried yucas. It was very tasty. I like the trout. It has a nice flavor, not too heavy. And the shrimps were very good too.
I was full, but shared dessert with mom. She ordered stuffed apples. An apple was stuffed with cinnamon and other spices and it came with a sweet and tasty syrup. It was warm, which was perfect for the cold weather.
Regarding the price, I have to say I was expecting it to be cheaper, but food was worth it and the view you get from the valley and river is very nice too. Furthermore, this is the only restaurant that has its own entrance to the river and organize horse rides.
The highway is great, but the road to the small town is not in the best condition. So driving a 4 x 4 is highly recommended. If you are looking for peace close to Lima, this is a good option also you get tasty food :)
