See some Gieshas Dec 17, 2009
Good price, nice staff, good facilities, beds are nice, many travellers. Best bit is it is in Giesha district so more chance to get some good photos, I manage to find 3 of them within 30 minutes of leaving this hostel. There is also a bus station up road, staff can give you daily pass ask for one 500yen, also they have map which is real easy to use and get around to the sites, you can use this to see kyoto all in one day, great place should stay here as cheap and good or if you are rich you can try those traditional private houses where they have servants. Just a warning that a lot of temples cost money so choose best ones if low on money.
Not far to find Giesha

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm. The room was a bit dirty. It did not seem that anybody came in to clean it on a regular basis. Lower bunk beds had very little head room; you couldn't sit upright. You have to be careful getting in and out of the lower bunk otherwise you'll hit your head.

Shower facilities were pretty good. Hot water, lots of privacy, and even soap & shampoo available.

Kitchen facilities were not too bad either. There was enough basic kitchen stuff to cook simple meals.

Free computer/internet access available in a cozy common room. My room had its own computer with internet access as well.

I didn't interact with staff much, but they were helpful when I had questions.
