Another campsite that allows you to experience Jordan without dropping big bucks is Bait Ali Campsite in Wadi Rum. There are very few accommodations here anyway, and Bait Ali features the only swimming pool in Wadi Rum!

I’m not sure what all is available since I was just relieved to get a confirmation for a tent site after two months of e-mailing, but there were some larger tents and cabins on the grounds. Although our tent was an ancient canvas pup tent, the cots proved very comfortable if a bit shabby.

The main attraction of Bait Ali is the location and the evening facilities. Again the rental rates are ridiculously cheap, making the add-on or meals seem steep, but still a good value (you would be fortunate indeed to find any place serving food around here). Where Bait Ali excels is in the evening, since this is about the only place around which serves alcohol and the majlis areas (sort of like the a beer garden) are tastefully decorated.

If nothing else, Bait Ali posies you for digging into the beautiful Wadi Rum environ and possesses the only swimming pool in Wadi Rum! The site also has flush toilets (though a bit grubby) and hot showers. You’ll be roughing it, but not terribly so.

For a two-person tent we paid 22JD (Jordanian dinars) per person per night, which included breakfast and lunch. They have larger tents and cabins available as well.

Elke, cannot recommend Jordan enough...and plenty of non-roughing places (except for Wadi Rum)!
