Explore what main street can offer you Feb 11, 2017
Bahnhofstrasse is main street in down town and well know shopping area. Here you can find many of Switzerland's finest stores with many world known brands, but also to some of its largest bank.

But where is that street precisely?

The Bahnhofstrasse leads from the main railway station to the lake. This 1,4 km long street is mostly a pedestrian area almost without traffic except the trams. It runs parallel to the river Limmat. Department stores, boutiques and jewelry shops are one of main reason for visiting and exploring this areas. Your shopping time could easy combine with visits to churches and other important sites of Zurich that you can find in the narrow streets near the main street.

About the Bahnhofstrasse:

This street was build in 1864 but major development as boulevard from construction of the main railway station of Zürich between 1865 and 1871. Many buildings were constructed and shops and business founded:

1838 Hotel "Baur en Ville" (now Hotel Savoy Baur en Ville) - before official founding of street.

1858 the Sprüngli House, even earlier the store of Otto Ganz and

1899 the Jelmoli Glas Palace.

Till this day the Pestalozzi-Lawn has not been built-over, as in those days no business man was willing to buy the former hanging-ground. The last hanging (of two hold-up murderers) took place in 1857.

There is also many statues so it everything for every taste. Enjoy!
