Bago (or formerly Pegu) is a city and the capital of Bago Division in Myanmar. It is located about 80 kilometers or 50 miles northeast from Rangoon or Yangon as it is officially called now.
Bago is easily accessible from Yangon, Mandalay, Pyay by road or rail. From Yangon a day trip is possible by bus or car.
There are 3 huge reclining Buddhas in the city, the most popular one is at Shwe-tha-lyaung pagoda. However, the Shwemawdaw is the most well known pagoda in the city and reputed to be the tallest one in Myanmar, even taller than the famed Shwedagon pagoda in Yangon.
