Art museum really but good enough May 11, 2011
Although it was Vasari that designed the church visible today during the sixteenth century, the site itself has been associated with worship since the thirteenth century, when Benedictine monks founded a monastery here. Today, the church is still very well preserved and maintained but I don’t think it’s frequented by worshippers that often anymore. For art lovers, there is a great collection of paintings from the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries, including the work of Vasari. Apart from the stunning paintings, there isn’t much to see. The walls are quite bare and with the alarm barriers, it has the feel of an over-protective art museum rather than a traditional church. Worth seeing though!
