People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia), Ed (England), Harry (England)
We awoke early on Wednesday and had a quick look at Tiannamen Square, which looked more impressive than the previous day, as the smog had mostly lifted. After this, we caught a Chinese tour bus to go and see the Great Wall of China and Ming Tombs. Our first stop was Badaling, a part of the Wall we were told was overrun with tourists and therefore not that nice. This couldn't have...

In my 15 trip to China, I finally got to see the Great Wall! Joe insisted that we make an effort to see the Great Wall, since it was his first time to China. So after a huge effort on the phone and online, we were able to book two tickets on a domestic carrier. I think this was the most aggravating experience buying a ticket! After work on Friday we took a late flight to Beijing from the HongQiao airport. This was my second time in the new Beijing airport and finally the operation is runnin...

Today we travel north to Badaling to view one of the wonders of the world: The Great Wall of China. Its construction began in tehe 5th century BCE as a defense against the Mongols. 300,000 people, many of whom are buried in the wall, labored on it over several centuries. Extending across mountains and valleys for more than 3,000 miles - perhaps only a tenth of its formet length, the wall was thought to be visible from space, but one of China's early space travelers said this...

Went to the Wall with the Brit. We brought our sleeping rolls in case we decide to stay the night in a hotel here. Waiting in line for a ticket, we are approaced by two female college students who offer to take us to an unrestored section of the wall where we don't have to pay. They are motivated by an opportunity to practice their English and are not at all pleased when I try to speak Chinese with them. On the way we stock up with a bag of KFC. At the...

Summary of my travels since starting to travel for work in 2004. Three continents and three jobs later, this blog is an ongoing work in process. All locations are entered through present, will be adding descriptions and pictures as I have the opportunity. Please let me know if you see an entry without info you would like me to upload pictures for and I can take care of adding that location's items sooner.

A three week adventure though Japan & China. Starting in Tokyo we explore the city, move towards the Hakone and Mt. Fuji area staying at a traditional Japanese Ryokan, than fly to China and explore the main sights in and around Beijing & Shanghai before coming home with a short stop in San Francisco along the way.

So after my morning workout in the park I was picked up by my impromptu tour guides, and we were off to deal with Beijing's traffic jams. The traffic didn't get really that bad until we got to the one road out of Beijing through the mountains, which caused all the traffic to be very tight. I later found out that the law forces the freight trucks out of the city during the day to combat the pollution (and share the love with the neighbors!), so they make the trips out of the city e...
