Small Miraflores Hostel May 28, 2011
Miraflores is one of the neighborhoods most recommended to stay in Lima. I found this place through Hostelworld. It got a lot of good reviews and was voted the best in the country in 2008 and 2009.
The hostel is relatively small. It seems to be a former private residence converted to a hostel. The size makes it comfortably intimate, not like you're in a big crazy place. It's run by Juan Pablo and Hernando both of which are very friendly and helpful. They gave us maps and suggested things to see, eat and walk through.
I recommend you bring earplugs. With any hostel there are noise issues. Steer clear of room 1 if noise bothers you. It's adjacent to the outside patio where breakfast is served (early activity) and where people drink and talk at night (late activity). They try to keep the noise down after 10pm.
We stayed upstairs in room 6. A private room with double bed and shared bath was $28 USD per night. They give towels but the bathroom upstairs has mold on the ceiling so the bathroom facilities aren't the best.
Breakfast is OJ, coffee (no cream or milk) and rolls with butter and jam. I brought a yogurt from the supermarket to have with breakfast the next day :-)
If you like small and personal, this is the place for you. If you want something bigger, the Flying Dog is located right on the main park in Miraflores. I've not been inside but it has a bit sign and appears much larger.
