Back Porch restaurant

If you have ever lived in a small town, you know everyone goes to the same places to eat the same food, on the same days at the same time; well, the back porch is one of those places that you actually enjoy doing the same thing all the time.

This landmark of a place has been in Kilgore for years. It is just down the street from the college, so many employees, students and staff find it a great place to walk to. Many others have visited the Back Porch including, our now, Governor Rick Perry and some other famous people whose pictures adorn the wooden walls. This is no fancy place. Some consider it fast food, that is if you are not the one standing in line at 12 noon waiting to place your order, or even pick it up for that matter.

The menu consists mostly of hamburgers: turkey, buffalo and beef, some fried foods, onion rings and fries. They have some of the best pies in town. Everyone who places an order is treated to their beans and fried cornbread sticks. Some people call them hushpuppies, others polenta, whatever you want to call them, they are good.

They have small and large burgers and some pretty good daily specials. The small burger along with an order of rings is enough to fill me up. The prices are very reasonable and it is worth the crowed seating area. They do have some tables outside, but who’s going to pass up air conditioning during the month of July in Texas. The sand volley ball pit is a hit in the evenings and the drive through window makes taking food home pretty easy.

The Back porch is just a good old country place to hang out, just like one would do on his own back porch with his friends.
