Bacchanal Wednesday for Carnival Chaguaramas Reviews
Nice outdoor fete (party) Mar 10, 2011
For the Carnival season, depending on when you arrive in Trinidad, Bacchanal Wednesday is pretty big party. If you are visiting, transportation might be a problem. I don't know if they have in Chaguaramas every year, but they did in 2011, and we had hired a driver anyway.
Chaguaramas is out on the NW end of Trinidad; without traffic, it could be almost 45 minutes from Port of Spain, but seeing as it was quite large venue, taffic is sure to accumulate and the ride will probably be longer.
We paid for VIP and depending on what you make of your time there, it could or could not have been worth it. The venue is a large outdoor area next to a warehouse. There were 3 stages, one huge one for the main performers, a smaller one in the back with techno/house and a few dancers gyrating on a pole and a third stage way in the back that could fit under one large canopy that played some sort of world music.
The VIP line was shorter and moved faster than the general admission line. General admission has port-o-potties, while we had nicer mobile bathrooms (but by the ed of the night, a public bathroom is a public bathroom-pee u). VIP also had access to food, while general admission did not, but their alcohol was cheaper and I think there cups were a little bigger, so I kept going into general admission to buy my drinks and then coming back to the VIP area to watch the concert (VIP had access to an elevated area).
There had several performers that were all entertaining and very good. As with any fete in Trinidad for Carnival, you should make arrangements to buy your tickets in advance. There was still availability up until a few days prior to the event, but don't know if any were available the day of.
