Baan Thai (London Road) Sheffield Reviews
Feb 14, 2007
If you're looking for authentic Thai cuisine served in plush surroundings then this is the place to come.
Situated in a converted Victorian bank the designers have taken full advantage of the original interior with a high ceiling and marble pillars being framed by a mezzanine level that can be used for a more private dining experience on busy occasions.
The rest of the decor is plush Thai opulence. Rich dark fabrics and gold paint surround large statues whilst exotic plants fill every surface. There's even a waterfall just inside the door!
The menu is extensive and varied. It's also very large - by that I mean physically large. Solidly constructed you could quite easily stand it on the table around yourself and not see one of your fellow diners all evening.
The food is rich and very flavoursome. Consisting of various combinations of ingredients and curry flavourings you're spoiled for choice. There is also a wide range of excellent vegetarian dishes with the red tofu curry being extremely nice.
For lunchtimes there is a cut down version of the menu available for seven pounds which gets you two courses and a drink of tea or coffee. The restaurant's position across the road from our office means that that particular offer gets well used!
If you're hoping to eat here at weekends it's advisable to book as the queues often snake down the street. Also it's a good idea to turn up fifteen minutes before your allotted time as they seem to book everyone in for the same sitting and then seat people on a first come first served basis.
