Stupid Things to do in Pamplona : N & A May 21, 2012
Running with the bulls, is one of the most insane and fantastic things on the planet. It"s a couple of hours of nervous energy followed by an explosion of adrenalin that lasts all day…

It"s midnight and the party is just getting started. One hundred thousand drunken Spaniards, dressed in red and white, are dancing in the streets. No one is going home until the sun comes up and the bulls have run. There"s only one thing to do… grab a bottle of 3-Euro sangria from the corner store and join in the fun.

Spaniards have incredible staying power, they have the same crazy party every night for an entire week. Before coming to Pamplona"s festival of San Fermin, we thought it was all about the bulls. But we were so, so wrong. It"s just as much about the party, which is one of the best and biggest on the planet.

f you"re out all night, which you will be, by the morning you will feel, how can I say it… skanky. Everyone ends up covered in red wine and street sludge (there are no public toilets, if you catch my drift). The first thing you"ll want desperately is a shower. That"s how we ended up at El Molino.

Everything we read online said that it"s impossible to park on the streets of Pamplona. So, we booked "Spinal Tap" into El Molino… the biggest and most well known campsite in the area.

They took our three night booking and a big deposit. When we arrived, the rules changed and we had to pay for 5 nights or we had to get out. And they weren"t giving our deposit back either. Almost everyone at the campsite we spoke to had been scammed in exactly the same way.

To add salt to the wound, we noticed that there are plenty of places to park vans, all legal and really close to the centre of town. A lot of people sleep in the city parks with only a sleeping bag and the police don"t mind at all. The only problem with street camping is that there are no showers or toilets.

Despite getting ripped off, having the van at the campsite was awesome. We knew it would be safe and coming home from the festival, we loved settling into our comfortable little bed and sleeping the day away. Everyone else was stuck in smelly tents without decent mattresses. And, while we were cooking in our van, they were spending a fortune buying food at the campsite café.

Running with the bulls, is one of the most insane and fantastic things on the planet. It"s a couple of hours of nervous energy followed by an explosion of adrenalin that lasts all day.

The only thing better than running with the bulls is doing it twice.

WICKED TIP… If you are not running, then the best place to watch the action is from the bull ring.
