BLT Steakhouse West Hollywood Reviews
Graet Steakhouse on Sunset Blvd. Jun 22, 2008
As usual, I was hesitant in trying a "trendy" restaurant on Sunset, because they are more often about the patrons and the decor then anything else, but my mind was eased when I read reviews about this new-ish restaurant and the focus was really all about the food - good old solid steakhouse fare. Upon entering, I was pleased with the nice large open dining room abuzz with the sounds of dining, conversation and laughter - and more importantly, the vast range of ages (from old to young) in the diners. (Warning - it can get very loud in here!) Hostess was very friendly w/out the normal "sunset attitude".
We were promptly seated once our entire party arrived. (only real complaint - the service was very nice, but a tad slow, but that could be due to the newness of the restaurant. I suspect once they get into a more experienced groove, the timing will be better). We were provided with a complimentary chicken liver pate with toasts - very savory and flavorful. In addition, BLT provides complimentary cheese popovers - large immense pillows of yumminess! don't come here if you are on atkins! it would be a shame to pass on these puffs!
For our meal we had the following... yes, it was a lot of food, but we couldn't resist. (Odd note - everything literally came at the same time ... a bit weird. It not only made the table really crowded, but didn't really give you time to enjoy the appetizers...).
Cheese course - very lovely selection of artisan cheeses served with port-soaked figs (heavenly) and caramelized walnuts.
Onion Rings - a beautiful tower of goodness; nice light crust on the sweet rings.
Ribeye steak with bone marrow - well cooked, flavorful, tender piece of meat; the bone marrow was a nice bonus (great on the toast).
Filet - my friend enjoyed it, but it was slighly overdone.
Pork Belly - I didn't try this, but my friend said it was good and ate every last bite. :)
White creamed corn - Admittedly I'm a corn addict, but this was really quite good! Not too creamy or mushy; just plump sweet morsels of corn in a light cream sauce.
Sauteed Spinach - good, not extraordinary.
We were pretty stuffed so had to forego dessert, but they have a more interesting selection than most steakhouses. They ended our meal with little brownie bites - delicious!
i really enjoyed the atmosphere and food of this place. Service/timing will likely improve. Prices are comparable for the steaks, but are a bit high for the small portioned sides.
